I have come across the wonderful spirit of Shellybobbins and i just wanted to find out more about this inspirational lady who bursts with passion for creativity every day!
An inter view with Shelly....
1. Introduce yourself and your company!
Hello I'm Michelle but loved being called Shelly - My companies names called Shellybobbins
2. What made you start your company?
I got made redundant last year for the 3rd time I was on benefits for over 3 months I just thought there must be more to life than this.
3. Can you give us a typical ‘day in the life of’ – we’d love to know
what you do day by day, even the what-might-seem-like-boring bits!
Well I'm up at 7am unless the girls need taken anywhere then I'm up at 4.30am most times I update my facebook page & say hello to everyone, followed by cups of tea, emails, Twitter,toast, More cups of tea, shower dressed teeth cleaned & smell stunning lol !! Ha ha into my sewing room & switch the heat on & machines most important Ipod !! So I'm ready to rock around the room, promote, & more promoting on Twitter & facebook, as
the only person who can push yourself "is you" so I've got to then lay the open fire in the back room we have an old airier over it, & also the wood burner in the front room, our girls are very good Mr Bobbins by now will have been outside to collect wood for me, & girls will have put the washing machine on dried any dishes once the youngest & Mr Bobbins has gone to take youngest to the bus stop & then Mr Bobbins onto work, our eldest one goes about half an hour after, & normally helps with fires & washing, once, every ones gone then
it's party time, music up and sewing either finishing off or pencils out to start drawing, I can get carried away & sometimes end up having a late dinner , while I make lunch & cuppa maybe put another load of washing in or make some quick flap jack, & also prep things for tea too, slow cooker is my god send lol we often have a dish called "bung it in" lol or "curry in a hurry", more sewing in the afternoon, along with ringing the shops which I've just recently put my lovely handmade gifts in for orders, any blogging, promoting till Mr.Bobbins gets in then have a cuppa tea & catch up with huge hugs, we have some tea together girls then wash up & do homework chat about there day, & fill the house with laughter as we do all joke about with Paw Bobbins running up & down the stairs going mad when the girls get her lead for a walk, normally sit down in the front room with hand sewing while I watch TV with Mr Bobbins
4. What do you enjoy most or what is your favourite part of your job?
I really love everything apart from working out prices & researching due to dyslexia
5. How do you come up with your designs? What inspires you
I could be doing anything & be inspired I have so many ideas in my head it's scary - giggle
6. How do you manage to mix your busy schedule with home and family
life? Some secrets to your success please!
Try and be organised I don't have any secrets at all as share everything & ideas to help others weather it be on Twitter or facebook
7. Do you manage to ever switch off the phone or laptop, or always
sneakily checking emails and calls 24/7?
Never I'm always promoting & working & designing, never miss an opportunity
8. What top tip would you give to others starting in business?Always do #sbs Small Business Sunday ! I got re tweeted from Theo Paphitis from Dragons Den and on the 15th November last year this happened life's not been the same since !
Yes do your research, have a clear idea of what you want to do, & how to do it, get grants & help from where ever you can, get yourself on some course knowledge is power !
10. What has been your most unusual request and did you manage to fulfil it?
Ha ha I've not had one yet !! But maybe ill get one after writing this article !
11. Anything else you would like to share with us, up and coming news, past successes
Being asked right at the start of setting up this business Id joined Twitter a year ago but never tweeted lol, believe it or not, I was approached by a lovely lady called Fi who had a site, we started chatting allot over the next few weeks & one day asked me if I'd like to do the crafting on her site Mmm "Crafting with Shellybobbins" yes please, & now Im on http://www.childcareisfun.co.uk for free it's a fantastic site & I love doing the crafts for littlies too ! Get to mess about with glue & glitter too - great fun !
I've also recently found out that it was Fi that had nominated me for "Best Start Up 2010" on the Business Mum Awards 2010 I've now been short listed & I'm really excited about it, even just to be nominated was amazing never mind to be short listed - I'll keep you posted with this as votes finish tomorrow hee hee
I've just been asked to be a tester for a national news paper - but not allowed to say what - sorry will keep you posted with that too
Also been asked to enter which I will be doing, it's a shop window display in May - I'll be taking pictures of that to show you too
Other things in the pipe line which I can't discuss that will be happening over the next few weeks so again sorry but i will - keep ya posted
Not bad for a disabled kid who got told I'd never walk & lead a normal life :-)
